Sampdoria 0 – 0 Milan: Samp Secure Point Against Milan

Obiang
Sampdoria raced out of the blocks and enjoyed almost total domination of the first twenty or so minutes. The first player to test Abbiati was De Silvestre after a powerful run towards goal he let go a shot which forced the Milan keeper to palm away. Abbiati was kept busy as the game progressed having to push a shot from Poli over the bar and then he was forced into action by a driven freekick from Eder.

Samp’s best chance then came on the 20th minute when Captain Danielle Gastaldello headed over the bar from a corner with an unmarked header when he really should have done a lot better.

Milan seemed to wake up after that scare and started to see a lot more possession of the ball, however they lacked a cutting edge and only managed efforts through Bojan blazing over the bar from the edge of the area and then a long range effort from Montolivo that was straight at Romero.

Half time came with the score at 0-0 , Doria having the best chances and they would have felt they should have gone in ahead.

There was a drastic improvement in Milan from the whistle in the second half. There was an early penalty shout that fell on deaf ears as the ball struck De Silvestre’s arm. Milan continued to be ontop but like in the first half failed find that cutting edge, which came as a surprise considering they had scored in their last seventeen away matches.

On the hour mark the game suddenly came to life with chances at both ends. Some good work down the right hand side from Niang saw him get a low cross in to the danger area, Bojan from a tight angle fizzed a shot across goal and then sliding in at the far post for Milan was Boateng and it seemed like he was about to score but Romero managed to get something on it. Moments later it was Sampdoria’s turn to threaten , Poli played through Icardi one on one with Abbiati but he put his shot wide, the young striker failing to build on his two goals the previous week with that chance.

The game started to fizzle out a little after those chances then on 72 minutes M’Baye Niang may have counted himself a little lucky to get away with just a yellow as he appeared to elbow Andrea Costa, some referees may have had a different view on the challenge.

As the game drew to a close Milan saw more of the ball and seemed to have a little more urgency to go and win the game however Sampdoria defended resolutely and the game finished up at 0-0 .

Milan failed to continue their record of consecutive goals in away games in a game that saw Doria have the better chances and on the balance of play the home say may see this as a chance for a big three points lost. Next up for Sampdoria is a trip to Stadio Artemio Franchi to face Siena.
